The Vietnam War as a Vietnamese War: Agency and Society in the Study of the Second Indochina War
Abstract
The Vietnamization of Vietnam War Studies—we use the term deliberately, and with the requisite degree of historical irony—has manifested itself in a growing interest in the wartime roles and experiences of Vietnamese groups and individuals. It is also reflected in an outpouring of new research on the ways in which Vietnamese society both shaped and was shaped by the war.
